We look forward to serving your special dental needs and working together to improve your oral health.

INFECTION CONTROL:

Instrument sterilization services are available at the Central Sterilization Unit (room 2325) on the second floor of the dental building. Candidates participating in the patient and manikin portions of the NERB examination are required to follow all CDC/OSHA Infection Control guidelines when treating patients at this site.

Each cubicle is supplied with a spray bottle for disinfectant (Iodophor). The candidate should obtain fresh disinfectant from the Iodophor dispenser located in the lab area adjacent to the clinic.

There is a can of Metri wipe disinfectant towelettes in each cubicle. This product is used for cleaning areas that are difficult to spray (light handles, drawer pulls, chair ledges).

Sharps containers are located inside the laboratory area between each clinic.

The dental unit water lines will be pre-flushed for you prior to the examination. You will be required to flush the unit highspeed handpiece and air/water syringe lines with one bottle of hot water prior to initiating patient care.

The School provides the following barriers for surface protection:

  • Countertop papers
  • Plastic wrap
  • Bracket tray covers (paper and plastic)
  • Plastic sleeves for the handpiece, air/water and suction lines
  • Disposable napkin chains
  • Patient napkins
  • Headrest covers
The candidate is responsible for the clean up and disinfection of their work area before and after each patient. Candidates not cleaning their work area after the examination will be reported to the NERB, assessed a 'clean-up fee' by the School of Dentistry, and billed $50 for this service.
