1) AADSAS processes applications for 53 dental schools throughout the United States. Depending on their work load, it may take 4-6 weeks for them to process your application and send it to the schools to which you are applying.
2) In the interest of completing your application in a timely manner, it is highly recommended that all application materials are submitted at the same time.
3) It may be quicker if you send your letters of recommendation and college transcripts directly to the schools where you are applying.
4) It is extremely important that the information on your application is filled out carefully and completely as corrections are time consuming.
What happens now ?
1) When the University of Michigan School of Dentistry receives your application, we will send you a letter confirming that we have received your file. At this time we will also let you know what is missing from your application. We will request your $50 application fee.
2) A postcard will be sent to you once your application fee has been processed. Please retain this postcard as your receipt.
3)Another postcard will be sent to you when your application is complete.
4) We do not have a supplemental application. Once we receive the items that we request in the confirmation letter, your file will be complete.
5) Your application will be forwarded for review by the Admissions Committee.
6) At this point the committee will decide if they are interested in interviewing you. The committee may decide that they would like more information, such as grades from the current semester or a new set of DAT scores. This information will be requested via the U.S. Postal System.
7) If an unfavorable decision is made, you will be notified by mail.
8) Each year approximately 300 students are invited to a Campus Visit Interview . We will contact you and provide dates that are available for you to attend an interview at our school per our request. Interviews typically start each year in October and run until late February. More information regarding the interview day itinerary is included in the invitation packet.
9) Starting December 1st of each year, we begin sending out acceptance letters. Acceptance letters are sent out in small batches through the winter and spring months.
10) Accepted applicants are given a deadline to submit a non-refundable $1,500 enrollment deposit to reserve their position. The amount of time that an applicant has to submit their enrollment deposit is determined by the date of their acceptance.
Applicants admitted in December have 45 days to submit their deposits.
Applicants admitted in January have 30 days to submit their deposits.
Applicants admitted in February or after have 15 days to submit their deposits.
11) Some applicants may be offered an alternate position. Each year we maintain a list of alternate candidates. When our class falls below capacity, the admissions committee selects an alternate for that spot. Applicants on the alternate list are not ranked. Due to our constantly changing roster of accepted students, alternates may not know if they will be admitted until very late in August. In some years a few students are moved into the class from the alternate list while in other years there is no one moved into the class from the alternate list.
