Dr. Priestap maintains a private practice limited to orthodontics in Milford, Michigan. She is a native of Battle Creek, and attended the University of Michigan, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1977. She then attended Ohio State University where she received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983. Dr. Priestap then enrolled in the Graduate Program in the University of Detroit Mercy, receiving an M.S. in Orthodontics in 1986.

Dr. Priestap teaches in the Graduate Orthodontic Clinic on Friday afternoons, and also maintains a faculty position at the University of Detroit.
