Medical School Staff Orientation

Given our desire to provide an orientation program designed specifically for University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) employees, a two part orientation process was developed and implemented July 1, 1997 for UMMS staff. The first part of this program will be conducted by the Medical Campus Human Resources Department (MCHRD) for new hires and will continue to be held on Tuesday mornings in MCHRD beginning at 8:00 a.m. This portion of their orientation will consist of the completion of necessary paperwork and a presentation by the Staff Benefits Office.

Medical School staff will be excused after completing these two segments as the remainder of the program will focus on University Health Systems programs and policies. UMMS staff will then be directed to the Key/I.D. and Parking offices to complete their processing before returning to work. It is estimated that the paperwork and benefits segments will take approximately 3 hours to complete (8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.).

The second part of the orientation program will be held in and conducted by the Medical School on the third Wednesday of each month. All new staff and individuals transferring to the Medical School are expected to attend this meeting. Please have your new employees reserve this time on their calendars.

After speaking with Employee Health Service (EHS) and Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (OSEH) we have determined that it is no longer necessary for all UMMS staff to obtain health screenings. Therefore, this routing has been discontinued for most staff. In-depth safety training and immunizations will continue to be provided, as requested and as required by law, for individuals in laboratories and hazardous occupations. Please share this information with appropriate administrative staff in your department.
