Primary Research Track

In addition, most of their teaching takes place in their laboratories, as opposed to the classroom or clinic. There are four ranks of primary researcher: Senior Research Associate, Associate Senior Research Scientist, Assistant Research Scientist and Research Investigator.

Clinical II Track
These faculty have responsibility for patient care, education and service, but not for significant amounts of research. Clinical Track II faculty have appointments at 50% or greater effort, and the University is their sole employer.

Clinical I Track
Clinical Track I faculty have appointments of less than 50% effort and are non-salaried members of the faculty. They are usually in the private practice of medicine outside of the University of Michigan. They have responsibility for teaching medical students, residents, and/or fellows.
