The Biomedical Research
Council (BMRC) of the University of Michigan encourages biomedical
research and facilitates interdisciplinary research and training
across the University. One way this mission is supported is through
the BMRC's funding
programs. Funds are available to Basic Science researchers
in the Medical School for Interim Support, New Initiatives, Postdoctoral
Fellowships and the annual Equipment Competition. Clinical researchers
are encouraged to review the funding opportunities available through
ACCR.
The BMRC also reviews
the nominations for the Distinguished Faculty Lectureship and
the Dean's Award for Achievement in Basic Science Research. For

The BMRC members represent
the Health Sciences Schools and Colleges: Dentistry, Engineering,
LS&A, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health. There
are 17 members appointed for three year terms by the Dean of the
Medical School. In addition, there are four consultants representing
DRDA, Veterans Administration Hospital, Unit for Laboratory Animal
Medicine, and Office of the Vice-President for Research. The BMRC
meets Friday mornings from 7:45 to 9:00 a.m., to discuss issues
and make recommendations to the Medical School and University
Administration on policies and practices to assist research investigators
throughout the University. The current Chair of BMRC is Daniel
Goldman, and the Vice-Chair is Alvin
Schmaier .
