EQUIPMENT COMPETITION- Download the Application Form

The annual Equipment Competition supports the purchase of research equipment by Medical School faculty. The equipment must be broad in scope of use and enhance the externally funded research efforts of multiple users representing a variety of disciplines. Priority is extended to applications involving users from more than one unit or department, to equipment requests involving funding needs which could otherwise not be accommodated through external grants, and to those requests which include cost-sharing contributions from the units of the participating users. Well-justified applications from Biomedical Core Facilities are also acceptable. Applications may request between $20,000 and $100,000 for items which do not duplicate existing equipment currently available for use on campus, and which do not duplicate services provided by any of the Biomedical Shared Core Facilities. The deadline for 2003 is Monday, March 3rd.

GUIDELINES

Purpose: To support the purchase of research equipment with a broad scope of use and to enhance the externally funded research efforts of multiple users representing a variety of disciplines. Priority will be given to applications involving users from more than one unit or department, to equipment requests involving funding needs which could not otherwise be accommodated through external grants and to those request including cost-sharing contributions from participating units. Applications from groups of individual investigators or from core facilities will be considered.

Eligibility: All full-time, on-campus faculty with primary appointments in the Medical School are eligible to apply. Other users may be from within or beyond the Medical School. Eligible applicants should have a track record or current inventory of externally funded research, or should be able to demonstrate the likelihood of receiving continued support through research facilitated by this equipment.

Funding Threshold: Applications may request between $20,000 and $100,000. Applications for the lower range of funding should document why funds would not be more appropriately available through external grants and/or through the participating departments.

Application Specifications: Requested items may not duplicate existing equipment currently available for use on campus, nor should they duplicate services provided by the Biomedical Shared Core Facilities. The deadline for 2003 is Monday, March 3rd.
