In 1997, the program saw a dramatic increase in size and scope when Dr. Kazanjian competed successfully for a federal Ryan White Title III grant. This award provided support in the amount of $321,950 per year. In 1994, the UM HIV/AIDS patient population was 100-150. By the year 2000, the program had grown to 550 individuals. Dr. Kazanjian was able to receive funding again in 2000 for the Ryan White grant. The annual amount of the award is currently $528,198 per year.
