2002 Clinical Award for Primary Care

Margie Andreae, M.D., assistant clinical professor, Pediatrics

A compassionate clinician and gifted educator, Dr. Margie Andreae's efforts have had a significant impact on improving the efficiency and productivity of pediatric primary care. Dr. Andreae took the initiative to examine our primary care clinical service workforce, and soon noticed the lack of coordination between clinical work effort and compensation in pediatric primary care. As such, she became the principal architect, and force behind, a novel productivity-based compensation program. Dr. Andreae developed the program, planned its implementation, and guided its success over the past three years.

Following the introduction of this program, productivity in pediatric primary care increased by over 20% in the first year. Dr. Andreae works closely with each faculty member to assess their needs and to provide them with the necessary skills and support for their success. She has received significant national recognition for this compensation program, and presented "sold out" workshops on primary care physician compensation at the national meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies in 2000 and 2001.
