2002 Community Service Award

April Joy Ping, M.D., clinical instructor, Pediatrics

Bringing together the community in which she lives and works, Dr. Ping's knowledge and dedication to her work and her outstanding community contributions are truly exceptional. She makes time in her busy schedule to serve her community in a variety of capacities, speaking at churches on preventing drug use and early sexual activity in children. She assists in the training of Head Start staff for the State of Michigan, giving lectures on attention deficit disorder and respiratory problems in children.

n addition to maintaining a thriving general pediatric practice, she has established the Howell Pediatric Teen Clinic and serves as its Medical Director. This is the first and only teen clinic in Livingston County. It has filled such a profound need that the Howell Jaycees named Dr. Ping as Person of the Year in 1999. In 2000, the Michigan Jaycees named her Outstanding Young Michigander.

Dr. Ping is an outstanding example of how a physician can be of service to the community.
