2002 Administrator of the Year Award

Maria Ceo, clinical department administrator, Neurology

Frequently tapped by the School to serve on committees or task forces, Ms. Ceo is often asked to represent clinical department views on health system issues. Members of the Medical School and hospital seek her input and participation because of her experience, communication skills, knowledge base, collegial behavior, willingness to address difficult issues and projects and put in the time and homework for these commitments. She has a balanced view of the sometimes divergent goals and objectives of the departments, Medical School, and Hospital.

Ms. Ceo is also a team player in the Department of Neurology. While it is her responsibility to be the administrative lead in the Department, she seeks advice and input from faculty, staff, and content experts. She is willing and able to work directly on the details of complex Department and Hospital projects. Because the Department is small, she is actively involved in not only long range planning and setting of policy, but also in the implementation and operations of new and ongoing activities and projects. She has a very limited number of management staff, which requires her to become involved in the details of many issues and personally resolve them. She balances all of her roles with ease and gusto.

Her contributions have greatly enhanced the reputation of the Department of Neurology. She is most deserving of the Administrator of the Year Award.
