In
August 2002, congressional staffers from the Washington
offices of several Michigan senators and congressmen/women
spent a day and a half learning what it is like to belong
to an academic health center. Staffers dined with faculty
and house officers and listened to presentations on the
debt load house officers face, as well as the myriad demands
on faculty as they seek to fulfill the health system's
missions in the areas of education, research and clinical
care.
